About us
We watched the data walk out —
so we built a watchdog.
Watchdog AI was founded in New York City in 2025 by a security engineer and a former CSO who kept running into the same problem: brilliant teams, sensitive data, and a fast-growing list of AI tools nobody approved.
Our story
From a New York incident to a platform
In the winter of 2025, Maya Ellison was leading a security review at a New York financial firm when she found three months of source code sitting in a consumer chatbot's history. Nothing had been hacked. Nobody had broken a rule on purpose. The data had simply walked out through the front door — pasted, one helpful prompt at a time, into tools the company never approved and couldn't see.
She called Daniel Okafor, an infrastructure engineer she had trusted since their first incident response together. Two weeks later, in a cramped Flatiron sublet, they had a working prototype: a proxy that could see AI-bound traffic, classify what was in it, and stop the sensitive parts before they ever left the building.
That prototype became Watchdog AI. In 2025 we raised a seed round from enterprise-security investors, signed our first design partners — three New York fintech security teams — and spent the year learning exactly how data leaks into models, one endpoint at a time. In early 2026 the platform reached general availability, and today teams across finance, healthcare and technology run Watchdog between their people and the models they want to use.
Our belief is simple: companies shouldn't have to choose between moving fast with AI and keeping control of their data. The watchdog stays on duty so your team doesn't have to think about it.
Watchdog AI is founded in New York City.
First design partners: three NYC fintech security teams.
$6M seed round led by enterprise-security investors.
General availability: discovery, redaction, monitoring and audit.
Serving teams across finance, healthcare and technology.
Values
What we believe
Privacy is the product
We inspect traffic in transit and keep metadata only. If a DLP vendor can read your data, they are a liability — not a control.
Show the receipts
Every decision is logged and every policy is explainable. If we block something, you will know exactly why, down to the field.
Move fast, carefully
AI adoption shouldn't wait on a committee. We give teams guardrails, not brakes — audit mode first, enforcement when ready.
Leadership
The people on watch
Ten builders, breakers and believers — security engineers, product leads and privacy counsel who have all seen, up close, what data exposure does to companies.
Maya Ellison
Co-founder & CEOFormer CSO of a New York financial firm. Found the problem the hard way in 2025; now spends her days making sure nobody else has to.
Daniel Okafor
Co-founder & CTOInfrastructure and inspection engineer. Wrote the first redaction proxy in two weeks in a Flatiron sublet; now leads the platform team.
Priya Raghavan
Chief Product OfficerA decade building enterprise security products. Owns the console our customers live in — from discovery to audit.
Sofia Marchetti
VP, EngineeringScaled real-time data pipelines for fintech and ad platforms. Now scales the pipes that decide, in milliseconds, what gets to leave.
James Whitaker
Chief Information Security OfficerCareer incident responder. Runs our own security program — Watchdog watches everyone, including itself.
Leila Haddad
VP, Data ScienceBuilds the classifiers that fingerprint PII, secrets and source code across a hundred file formats.
Tom Nakagawa
VP, DesignDesigns the parts of DLP that people actually open. Believes a policy engine is only as good as the console that drives it.
Rachel Stein
General Counsel & Chief Privacy OfficerFormer privacy counsel for health-data platforms. Keeps us honest across GDPR, HIPAA and everything in between.
Marcus Bell
VP, SalesEnterprise security go-to-market. Has never lost an argument about why audit mode should come before enforcement.
Ana Ferreira
Head of PeopleBuilds the team and the culture. Previously the first People hire at two New York security startups.
